Half Hull Model Construction

This course covers all aspects of building a half hull model by the plank on frame method. The plank on frame method is illustrated because it requires a minimum of tools (an exacto knife, a piece of sand paper and a ruler) and no formal wood working skills. The course starts out with a discussion of hull lines drawings including the various parts of a drawing, scaling the drawing to the size needed for the model and redrafting as needed for model construction. Once the students are familiar with the different aspects of lines drawings, they will use a drawing to loft the parts of the model directly onto the wood used to build the model. The next several days will be spent building a model by the plank on frame method. The instructor will build a model right along with the students to illustrate techniques.

Instructor
Todd Dunn has been building model boats since the 60s. His hobby morphed into a small business in 2000 when he retired from his day job as a professor. Since 2000, Todd has built over 100 models of different boats ranging from simple half hull models to fully detailed radio controlled models. In this course Todd combines his experience as a model builder with 20 years of teaching experience to take the student from admiring a model on someone's wall to holding his/her own creation. The methods taught in this course give the student the skills needed to build a model of any boat.
